emmeco offers a progressive diagnostic and assessment service aimed at achieving comprehensive management planning and fostering collaborative care with your General Practitioner, Psychologist and wider care team. Our primary objective is to provide patients diagnosed with ADHD with a well-structured treatment pathway, ensuring the highest quality of care to enhance their overall quality of life.

We understand that our process may seem intricate, but it is designed to ensure that you receive the highest quality care. We want to provide you with a brief explanation of our procedures.

Our clinic operates on a 'stepped care' model, which means that our patient's are typically required to undergo Psychological Assessment for ADHD with a psychologist in order for our doctor to confirm a formal diagnosis. Due to high demand, we have put in place policies and procedures to maintain appointment

availability, flexibility, and, most importantly, patient safety.

We aim to make the assessment and medication planning process as seamless as possible, sparing you the effort of searching for providers or enduring extended wait times. Please contact our friendly reception team and they will be able to provide further information.

We cannot accept individuals with major co-occurring conditions that may pose medical risks or require psychiatric hospitalisation, as inpatient care is not available through our practice. These conditions include, but are not limited to, brain injury, severe depression or anxiety, eating disorders, personality disorders, and more.

We do, however, offer treatment to individuals with well-managed anxiety or depression in general practice, ASD level 1, and binge eating disorder, as these conditions are often associated with ADHD.

Medication & Prescriptions

New or Repeat Prescriptions

As per the emmeco Practice Policies 2023, all prescription requests must occur within an appointment with Dr Theodoratos. This is a precautionary & safety measure to protect patients. If you require a new and/or repeat prescription, please schedule a medication review consultation through HealthEngine via our website, emmeco.com.au, and ensure that all necessary prescriptions are requested during this appointment.

Medication Side-Effects, Questions or Concerns

If patients have any questions or concerns regarding their medication, Dr Theodoratos advises that they send a detailed email to admin@emmeco.com.au, and schedule a medication review consultation through HealthEngine via our website, emmeco.com.au. If you require emergency assistance please phone 000.

How Long Until I See Improvements in ADHD Symptoms with Medication?

The timeline for improvement varies for each individual. Some may experience positive changes within a few days, while others may take a few weeks. It's essential to communicate regularly with your healthcare provider to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.

Emergency or Crisis Care

Please be advised, if patients are experiencing a crisis, that emmeco is not a crisis facility and does not have the capacity to offer emergency care or crisis counselling. In the event of an emergency please phone 000.

Public mental health services provide crisis care, in addition to some alternative services listed on our website, emmeco.com.au. Immediate assistance options include dialling 000 or attending the nearest emergency department.

Fees

If you wish to know more about our practice's fee structure please request a copy of our Fee Structure 2024 from our administration team.

Our administration team provides each patient with a copy of all fee structures when they make an enquiry into an initial consultation with any of our practitioners.

Medicare

Medicare rebates are applicable for consultations held with Dr Theodoratos, and therapy consultations with our psychologists should a Mental Health Care Plan be in place. A Medicare rebate is not available for report writing and Neuropsychological Assessments.

Emmeco is not currently registered as an NDIS provider, therefore, our fees are not covered in this regard.

GP Shared Care

Why is Shared Care with My GP Required?

Shared care with your GP is essential for overseeing your overall health in ADHD treatment. Collaboration ensures a holistic approach, covering medication management, lifestyle, mental health, and other factors. Your GP will be responsible for prescribing and monitoring ADHD medications, and will collaborate closely with specialists, allowing for timely adjustments based on your individual care needs and response.

Appointments

Scheduling a Review

We now have a new online service to assist patients in scheduling their next consultation with Dr Theodoratos. We ask that all patients schedule a standard review or medication review appointment through HealthEngine via our website, emmeco.com.au.

Alternatively, patients may also phone our rooms on (07) 3193 3381 to speak with our administration team.

Can I schedule a Telehealth Phone Appointment?

Unfortunately, Dr Theodoratos does not offer telephone consultations at this time. We apologise for any inconvenience.

How often do I need to undergo Medication Reviews for ADHD Treatment?

Initially, monthly medication reviews are standard to fine-tune the dosage and assess your response.

Once the optimal dose is established, reviews may transition to three-month intervals, followed by six-month and eventually twelve-month intervals as stability is achieved.

Report & Letter Requests

GP Correspondence

Following each consultation, Dr Theodoratos will send an updated letter of correspondence to your GP to maintain consistency in your collaborative care.

Reports & Letter Requests

The practice reserves the right to deny providing reports, including medico-legal reports. If you require a report for NDIS/other purposes, please request a copy of our Fee Structure 2024 from administration and schedule a review consultation through HealthEngine via our website, emmeco.com.au. If you require a Referral, Travel Letter, letter or medical certificate, please also schedule a review consultation.

Reports and letters are not written during consultation and, therefore, incur separate fees. The fees associated with writing reports and letters also include the time taken by the doctor to read supplied material in order to generate a comprehensive and relevant report on a patients behalf.

Report & Letter Writing Fees

Comprehensive Report from Psychiatrist 1-hour: $650.00

Short Report from Psychiatrist 30-minutes: $325.00

Family Members

I am a Current Patient, can my family member also see Dr Theodoratos?

Dr Theodoratos does not typically recommend that family members of current patients also attend the practice at the same time. This is due to a myriad of reasons but most importantly as it can present a conflict of interest throughout treatment of all parties involved.

If you are a current patient and would like to make an enquiry with Dr Theodoratos regarding the potential treatment of any of your direct family members, please do so during your next review consultation.

Out Of State Patients

Prescription & Treatment Recommendations for Out-Of-State Patients

We appreciate your commitment to maintaining your mental health and would like to inform you about our prescription policies for patients residing outside of Queensland.

Doctor prescribing must follow State Health Department requirements, therefore, Dr Theodoratos can only prescribe medication to patients residing in Queensland at this time. This means that while Dr Theodoratos is unable to directly prescribe medications for patients residing outside of the state, we are committed to ensuring continuity of care.

To address this, Dr Theodoratos is available to provide comprehensive treatment recommendations. These recommendations will be tailored to your specific needs and will be forwarded to your local General Practitioner [GP]. Your GP, will be required to participate in shared-prescribing and obtain authorisation from the relevant State Health Department to prescribe your ADHD medication. This will likely require two visits to your GP - one to obtain the approval, then another to obtain the prescription.
